Meet Catherine
I am Dr Catherine Koini, an Educational Psychologist, specialising in the challenges of international mobility. With a Master’s degree in International Business and a PhD in Education, I have more than 10 years of experience as a corporate executive in banking in London and Frankfurt.
As a mother of three, I have personally experienced international transitions and the absence of practical support and understanding of the challenges. I was inspired to undertake a Master’s in Psychology, and subsequently completed a PhD in Educational Psychology at the University of Dundee, focusing on the impact of international transitions on family wellbeing. As a Chartered Member, I joined the BPS register of accredited test users in psycho-educational assessments. I am also a fully licensed psychologist in Belgium.I feel privileged to be able to combine my background in business and expertise in psychology to inform my work with internationally mobile families and corporates.
My work
I use evidence-based approaches to inform and guide my practice. Clients are offered a solution-focused approach by developing a deep understanding of the situation, then proposing solutions and strategies to bring about positive change.
I am a licensed psychologist with the Commission des Psychologues in Belgium. I am also a chartered member of the British Psychological Society. Chartered membership reflects the highest standard of psychological knowledge and expertise. I am fully insured and hold a blank DBA ("Uittreksel uit het strafregister, Artikel 596.2") for working with minors in Belgium.

In addition to supporting internationally mobile families and companies, I am a guest lecturer and supervisor in the Education Department at the University of Dundee, UK. I enjoy writing about international family transition using evidenced-based research. Check out this paper on the Impact of International Family Transitions. I am also a member of the Educational and Life Transitions (TCELT) Research Centre and Editorial Board member of the International Journal of Education and Life Transitions. My work at university informs evidence-based psychological practice at individual, school and company level.

We had a few hiccups during the family move to Belgium. A friend recommended Catherine as a local consultant specializing in transitions and so I got in touch. She was very helpful in supporting me and my family, giving practical advice as well as psychological support. Thanks Catherine!

Catherine made the whole testing process really smooth. She put our son at ease straight away and was always available before and after to answer any questions we had.
